Craig was born in Dunfermline, Fife and is the youngest of 4 children. He first started swimming at just 4 years old at his local 20m swimming pool. Craig comes from a strong sports family with both his brothers and sister being swimmers and his brother Andrew swimming for Great Britain in the European Junior and Senior events.

Craig was first selected to the Scottish National Team in 2007 where he represented Scotland at the DSE National Junior Championships. He was first selected by UKSA to represent Great Britain in 2008 at the INAS-FID European Swimming Championships and has become an important part of the strong mens relay team.

Craig made his television debut in 2008 with a BBC Scotland and 2009 saw Craig leaving his student days behind him as he completed college. He is now firmly set on achieving as much as he can in his swimming career.
