British Para Athlete and UKSA International Martina Barber gave her support to Disability Sports Coach’s (DSC) 2019 Summer Festival. The event supported by LMAX Exchange and RBKC Leisure Services saw over 300 athletes take part in the event. With over 22 sports on offer, the event exists to enable disabled people to try new sports, get some great coaching advice, have fun, be active and enjoy sport and physical activity in a social environment.
Opening the event and sharing her story and sports journey, Martina spent the day meeting and greeting new and aspiring athletes, showcasing her medals and encouraging them to try out activities and find one they love.
Speaking about the event, Martina Barber said “I am really pleased to be able to support DSC’s Summer Festival. It’s so important for young people to know that there is a lot out there to help and lots of sports they can try and to remember if you believe you will achieve.”
Barber continued “I started my career at local events and my international career took off representing Great Britain with the UK Sports Association at Inas Championships. I am an ambassador for UKSA and Ive used all my experiences to get to the British Para Athletics Squad now and have my goal of Paralympics in my sights. I hope that the people at the Summer Festival that I had the chance to speak to know that with hard work you can achieve.”
Lauren Mawdsley, Club Development Manager, Disability Sports Coach said “I want to say a massive thank you to Martina for attending the Summer Festival. Martina was a great asset to the day and everyone loved meeting and hearing her journey.”
